Produits Forestiers Petit Paris is a unique sawmill installation with several major technical challenges. Located in St-Ludger-de-Milot, north of Lac-St-Jean, it is committed to the modernization and quality of its equipment as well as the maintenance of local jobs and wishing to increase its competitiveness on the market. The challenge was to reuse sawmill residues, mainly bark, a material that is difficult to exploit but available in large quantities, to dry their wood.

The bark, being very wet (> 60%) and having very variable grain sizes, several measures were put in place to treat this resource difficult to burn. To provide the desired steam power, all extraction ladders were reinforced to withstand greater stresses and an air heater was installed to preheat the primary air and dry the fuel at the boiler inlet. In addition, the fireplace was oversized to allow better fuel spreading.

The project was started in Spring of 2017 and has since become a benchmark in the world of forest biomass and sawmills with their new 8MW ATAF750 boiler.
